Questions for the Former Candidate, and Current PM Justin Trudeau

So during the 78 day long election campaign, we heard a lot of different and not-so-different things from all the candidates, currently, the candidate that is sitting in the PM seat is Trudeau (eyyy).

He’s made numerous promises, just as [literally] every other candidate in the history of Colonial Canada. Let’s see what they were, because of who I am as a person, I will be asking all of the questions, and giving my response. Good luck.

Trudeau’s Commitment to Equal Gender Balance in His Cabinet:

Check. Buuuttt, it’s also important to recognize that this DOES NOT mean there is equality in the cabinet, in terms of proportional and appropriate representation, he has taken strides towards it, and this just makes me hopeful that other future PM’s will take similarly praised actions towards equity, instead of equality.

Trudeau’s Promise to Legalize Weed

I honestly am happy about this, however, I of course have reservations and criticisms galore. I firmly believe that the legalization of pot should happen in a way that supports the folks already growing safe weed, and only people who know what they’re doing are growing and distributing. I firmly believe that it could result in a negative on users, growers and distributors if we were to take this away and could possibly marginalize people smoking something that a majority of the class has smoked before.

Trudeau on the Northern Gateway Pipeline

” “It’s important that we get our resources to market, but it’s also important that we understand that it’s not just up to governments to grant permits anymore. We have to get communities to grant permission and that’s something that we need to spend more time focusing on,” Trudeau said. ” Hopefully he will listen to the communities who say no.

Trudeau’s Promise of Changes in Our Taxation

The Liberals promised to cut the middle income tax rate, for those making $44,000 to $89,000 a year, from 22% to 20.5%” as well as pledging “to add a new 33% income tax bracket on those earning over $200,000 annually.” The criticism for increasing the taxation for those who make more than 200k annually is because people believe it will come across as punishment of the entrepreneurs and successful business people of Canada. There are numerous other changes such as stopping income splitting, etc. In short, there are many of us who do not have a huge amount of faith in his plans to spend money, but like he claims, the balance will balance. Let’s see. . .

Trudeau’s Inquiry Into Missing and Murdered Aboriginal Women

What Trudeau refers to as “a national tragedy”, others would refer to as a genocide. Either way he has sworn to launch an inquiry; although there is no definitive date, he swears it will be done “immediately“. The NDP and new interim Conservative Party leader Rona Ambrose also supports this Liberal action and states it is a “non-partisan issue”. It’s more than time for this to be done, and for something to be done about it.

Trudeau’s Promise to Children (‘s families who receive benefits)

Currently our system of Child Benefits is based off of equality, which is fine, although it does mean that people who make a quadrillion dollars annually get the same amount of money as families who make 20,000 or 40,000 dollars annually. The new system proposed would be based more off of equity, the idea that everyone gets what they need to be equal:

Right off the Liberal page itself.

On Trudeau’s Promise re. His Infinitely Ill decision to Support Harper’s C-51

Why on Earth. . .? You know what never mind. Here’s an update on it: http://www.cbc.ca/news/politics/liberal-transition-security-rethink-1.3301260

Climate change, Scientists, and Trudeau also Believes in it.

Thanks bud. We need a non-nut-job, powerful PM to take action in this field.

Trudeau on Our Right to Die

Currently we do have systems in place to help someone passively end their life on their terms, however, Do Not Resuscitate (DNR) orders are not always followed as the people involved in their death may not know they are DNR, and may attempt life preserving tactics such as CPR, or they use of an Automated External Defibrillator (AED). These do not respect the individual’s legal rights or wishes. The only real option Canadians have for actively ending their life is suicide, finally decriminalized 1972 as a legal deterrent was deemed unnecessary. Yet still in 2015, 43 years after it became legal to take one’s own life, there is an insurmountable amount of scrutiny and shame for ending your life, even if the quality of life is so bad, or they’re terminally ill, or always or indefinitely in unimaginable pain. Legalizing medically assisted death in Canada would allow patients to opt for choices that best fit their needs and wishes, it would allow them support and most importantly, the dignity to say goodbye to their partners of which 46 – 56%4  had as well as their families. To say goodbye on their terms.
We do in fact have do all have the “right not to be subjected to cruel and unusual treatment or punishment” (Charter of Rights and Freedoms, Section 12) as well as the “right to life, liberty” (Charter of Rights and Freedoms, Section 7) these individually as well as together create strong cases in favour of the right to choose death or life for your own well being. The right to end your life is yours, the right to be from suffering is already here, as well as the liberty to choose. At the end of the day, when you’re tired, exhausted and defeated, you get to choose to take a break, to rest, don’t these people deserve that right as well?

Let’s see what Canada’s leader will do.

Trudeau Decides Stuff About ISIS and terrorism

Let’s see what he has to say about our current defenses when he get’s back from Paris…

Just to make sure, you all know that there has never been a refugee in Canada that was a terrorist, ever.

Made it through? Congrats, took me a while too.

What Will the New Government Do?

On November 4th we will have our new government take form after Trudeau selects his new cabinet. I must say though, during the all candidates I was anything but impressed by Tim Kane, the Liberal party representative. Walking in late, unprepared and without meeting or greeting any of the students, he declares he’s “here for the veterans”, two words: wrong crowd. This sort of pandering has been reflected during the duration of the Liberal’s public presence and interviews for the duration of their campaign.

However, they have won and with shining colours (shining red). So I would like to ask you the questions that I asked the other NDP candidates this election:

  1. How do you plan on dealing with low income households?
    1. Specifically those fighting with the courts in reference to loans, debt and the biggest, child support?
  2. How will you be dealing with the high rates of discrimination, oppression and cultural genocide against the indigenous population of Canada?
    1. How do you think that the actions you may or may not take will influence similar countries (Australia, USA…) with similar challenges when it comes to ending post colonial violence?
